As many of you know, Belatrix was recently recognized as one of the top small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) in Argentina. HSBC together with the influential Argentine newspaper, La Nacion, organized the awards to highlight the achievements of the country’s leading small businesses.
I want to take a moment to examine the impact of SMBs in Argentina. As La Nacion highlighted at the event, it is SMBs that are the motor propelling economic development. While these organizations may not be household names, they are having a significant impact in their respective industries, and on the country.
Gabriel Martino, the CEO of HSBC, wrote in the La Nacion following the event, that small and medium sized businesses are “the motor, the growth, and the foundation” of Argentina. Martino highlighted the importance of SMBs for local economies, and that in Argentina, eight out of 10 employees work for such a company, generating 80% of employment. It is small companies that think big, who are the generators of innovation. Indeed, as Martino went on to explain, SMBs are increasingly producing products and services for an international and global market – and it is these companies that end up becoming the “brands” of Argentina.
The statistics are impressive: 99% of Argentine enterprises are SMBs, and more than 4.1 million people work every day in a small Argentine business. Over the past few years, the government has supported these businesses, with new regulations, and efforts to help stimulate investments.
Even though a lot of companies in Argentina are investing in technology, it is SMBs who are prioritizing integration with the global market. Which is why Gabriel Martino advised that organizations must have this word in their minds – “global”.
The judges of the awards assessed more than 200 companies to find the finalists. I’m very proud that Belatrix was recognized as part of this prestigious group, given the intense competition. Belatrix’s recognition comes after a series of award successes, such as our recent Stevie Awards success in the American Business Awards, and being recognized as a Great Place to Work for the third year in a row.
