Mastering a skill requires a lot of hours of training. Some scientists have calculated it can take up 10,000 hours of practice to be considered an expert on any given skill. However, regardless of the actual amount of time, what we can take for a fact is that persistence and discipline play a definitive role in the process. This is the case of Belén, a former gymnastics enthusiast who used her background to boost her professional career and achieve big things at Belatrix.
“I consider consistency and discipline the main drivers of success”
Can you please tell me about your role and the story of your career?
Right now I work at Belatrix as a Quality Assurance (QA) leader. As for the story of my career, I majored in Systems Engineering and later enrolled in Belatrix. At the beginning I knew nothing
about quality assurance and testing, so basically I started from scratch. Fortunately, people here were very nice and helped me a lot in the learning process. Now that I think about it, I’ve been working for 8 years in the company!
What is the thing you love the most about your job?
One of the things I like the most is the ability that I have gained over the years to analyze systems. Instead of concentrating on specific features, I am now able to see the big picture, and therefore be more strategic. Apart from this technical side, I love to work with people from other cultures. I remember once I was on vacation abroad and I ended up meeting one of our customers which we had been working for months and had already established a friendship. I thought it was amazing to have friends you’ve never met before in person thanks to our previous work relationship.
How has Belatrix helped you achieve your career goal?
Well, in the first place I would say that it was thanks to Belatrix that I learned everything I know about QA. Based on this, I have been able to build and develop my technical skills. Also, being able to choose the projects I want to work on has been of great help because I can focus on those areas or industries I feel more passionate about. Finally, I have taken advantage of all the trainings that Belatrix provides us, which in my personal opinion are great to keep on learning and stay up-to-date.
What has been your most memorable moment at Belatrix?
After 8 years working at Belatrix I think the “moment” I enjoy the most is the end of year party. It’s really nice to see people you work with in another mindset: going crazy, fooling around and just having a good time. Also it is a good chance to meet people that do not belong to your area or that you have very little interaction with in the office. Every year I look forward to this event since it brings very nice memories and we all enjoy a really good time.
What are your goals for your career?
Right now I am really interested in learning about automation; I am convinced it is the future of quality assurance. So far I have seen, through automation testing you can run tests all day long without the need of manual operations. In the long run, this will increase efficiency in ensuring quality checks. In general terms my main goal at the moment is to continue studying in order to gain more knowledge regarding new processes and dynamics in the industry.
Who is Belén out of Belatrix? Do you have any hobbies?
I am very active with sports. Actually, a couple of years ago I used to practice gymnastics, which taught me the importance of being responsible with your team. Also I learned the value of consistency and discipline. I consider these two to be the main drivers of success which I have applied to my professional career.
