Get to know us: introducing Nicolás Silvestre

When I was about to interview Nicolás, I remembered a statistical cliche that states that in face-to-face conversations, 95% of the information received comes from non-verbal communication. Without any scientific support, just my mere perception, I felt this statement was more accurate than ever: the coolness and the good vibe I felt from Nicolás was amazing. Turns out it was just like that; he’s an easy-going, clever guy that loves his job and is able to transmit it without any struggle. Allow me introduce him:

“Thanks to Belatrix I’ve grown from being an intern all the way to my current position as a senior QA engineer”

  • Can you please tell me about your role and the story of your career?

Currently I work as a Senior Quality Assurance (QA) at Belatrix. As for the story of my career, it is quite interesting: a couple of years ago, when I was about to finish university, I had to find a company to fulfill my internship requirement. That was how I got to Belatrix. At the beginning the journey seemed short – just a couple of months – however, upon completion I felt a huge appreciation for the company, as well as an interesting opportunity to grow professionally. It was a no-brainer, I knew I had to keep on working here. Later on I became a full-time employee and started working on my career growth. Now that I look back it’s nice to see how I started as an intern and escalated all the way to my current position as a senior QA engineer.

  • What is the thing you love the most about your job?

Software development is a field that demands a lot of concentration and attention to detail. Also, there are copious amounts of deadlines to meet, therefore we are prone to stress. Belatrix understands this and has done a big effort to offer a “developer-friendly” environment with entertainment spaces such as coffee points, a foosball table, couches to chat and relax and several table games. Added to this, workmates are very friendly at Belatrix so we often get together for lunch or chat for a while.

  • How has Belatrix helped you achieve your career goal?

Well without any doubt it would be the fact that Belatrix has given me the opportunity to grow and evolve from an intern to the senior professional I am nowadays. I remember when I was about to finish university, I had to struggle between classes and work. Fortunately, at Belatrix they were very helpful and gave me all the necessary permissions to skip work and attend uni without hesitation.

Now that I’ve been over 6 years at Belatrix, I’d say the internal platform has been of great help since we can widen our skills in a lot of different technical areas and improve our professional profile.

  • What has been your most memorable moment at Belatrix?

I remember when I was first given the opportunity to train people: being able and responsible to transmit knowledge was something that meant a lot to me. It empowers and boosts your skills and confidence. Also, working with people that you do not know is something that still feels both strange yet familiar; after months of working with people abroad, you end up developing a friendship where you share many things and learn from other cultures.

  • What are your goals for your career?

This is something that I ask myself permanently. At the moment I feel satisfied with what I’ve managed to do so far, therefore right now I’d like to settle and gain experience as a QA engineer. One of the good things about technology is that it gives you the possibility to research in order to be up to date on the latest trends, techniques and frameworks, amongst others. Having this in mind, I guess I would like to continue developing my technical side since it offers a myriad of possibilities to work on.

  • Who is Nicolás outside of Belatrix? Do you have any hobbies?

I am very active with sports. Actually, a couple of years ago I used to practice gymnastics, which taught me the importance of being responsible with your team. Also I learned the value of consistency and discipline. I consider these two to be the main drivers of success which I have applied to my professional career.
